SIOUX CITY -- Betty A. Tangedahl, 69, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Betty was born Aug. 7, 1940, in Sioux City, the daughter of Roy and Alta (Chamberlain) Welcher.

She married Howard Tangedahl on Aug. 3, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nev. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1990, in Seattle. She worked as a medical assistant for a medical office in Seattle and in the billing department of various insurance companies before moving to Sioux City. While in Sioux City, she worked as the lifeline coordinator for Mercy Medical Center. She was a longtime volunteer for Mercy and for Lamb and Community Theatres in Sioux City.

She was a member of the Highlanders Drill team and the Western Vigilantes' Sidekicks, both in Seattle. She enjoyed reading, skating, dining out, traveling, music and movies.

Survivors include her four children, Michael Tangedahl of Sioux City, Kimberly and her husband, Chris Grissom of Rhinelander, Wis., Todd Kelley of SeaTac, Wash., and Pamela Kelley of Kirkland, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine "Pat" and her husband, Bruno Zittlau of Seattle and Carol and her husband, Roy Bennett of Everett, Wash.; four brothers and their wives, Richard and Linda Welcher of Shoreline, Wash., Robert and Carol Welcher of Reno, Nev., Tom and Charlotte Welcher of Everett and Donald Welcher of Juanita, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Kayla Grissom; sisters, Helen Nichols, Janice Dawson and Shirley Schad; and a brother and his wife, Roy "Buster" and Beverly Welcher.
